Stroke Internist, Department of Medicine

The Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) Department of Medicine is seeking a Stroke Internist to join our team. As the designated District Stroke Centre for this region, WRH's District Stroke Centre (DSC) team and its partners work collaboratively with many local organizations and disciplines to plan and implement strategies for improving stroke care in response to local, regional and provincial identified needs and priorities.

The successful candidate will provide Hyperacute Stroke care, and service the TIA Clinic and Acute Stroke Unit, a 16-bed closed unit dedicated to the provision of state-of-the-art stroke care. WRH is expanding its EVT services commensurate with recent evidence in stroke care. The successful candidate will be joining a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, hospitalists, internal medicine specialists, and interventional radiologists who provide stroke care in our region. Further, there is an abundance of opportunity for an internist at WRH with three admitting teams and a consult service at both hospital campuses, as well as an Admissionist service.

WRH is affiliated with the Schulich School of Medicine, Western University, and the full-time Windsor Campus gives the best of both worlds in achieving academic excellence combined with the busy pace of community practice. Opportunities for inpatient and outpatient care as well teaching and academic endeavours are endless in Windsor. It is expected the successful applicant will apply for academic appointment with Schulich.

Applicant physicians must have licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and have, or must be eligible for, certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, in internal medicine. An interest in clinical teaching and program building is considered an asset.

About Windsor-Essex County

The Windsor-Essex area is ecologically rich with extensive parkland along with a southwest location that extends warm weather activities. Windsor offers the best of both worlds: the unique opportunities of a larger metropolitan area and the benefits of a smaller community. Just across the border from Detroit, residents have immediate access to arts, culture, sports, and entertainment one associates with “big city life,” while enjoying the relative tranquility and low costs of a smaller community.
