Chief, Department of Pediatrics

Applications are invited for the position of Chief, Department of Pediatrics, at the St. Joseph's Health Centre site of Unity Health Toronto. The successful candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is January 1st, 2023 or as mutually agreed upon, for a five-year term, renewable once, upon successful review. St. Joseph's Health Centre is the acute care community teaching site within the Unity Health Toronto network. Unity Health Toronto is comprised of St. Michael’s Hospital, Providence Healthcare and St. Joseph’s Health Centre. St. Joseph's Health Centre is a community hospital that provides primary through tertiary care services for West Toronto, southern Ontario and beyond.

The St. Joseph's Health Centre site annually hosts approximately 100,000 ED visits, and cares for over 21,000 inpatients in more than 392 beds. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest clinical departments at St. Joseph’s Health Centre with over 40 Staff Physicians providing high quality ambulatory and inpatient clinical care with dedicated in-patient beds and level 2C NICU beds. The department supports the clinical needs of the Peri-operative Program, Family Birthing Centre, Emergency Department, Child and Youth Mental Health In-patient Program, as well as our Just-For-Kids walk-in clinic. The outpatient Pediatric Consultation Clinic provides general pediatric consultations as well as services in subspecialty areas that include Respirology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Developmental Pediatrics, Mental Health and Neonatal follow-up. A robust Pediatric School Outreach program, part of the REACH School Network,  serves southwest Toronto in close collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine. The Department of Pediatrics has a long tradition of excellence in education with undergraduate and postgraduate medicine teaching through the University of Toronto. There are 31 Faculty members that drive the department’s academic mission

The Department seeks an outstanding clinician with excellent leadership skills and previous administrative experience with a strong commitment to excellence in clinical care, quality improvement, education, and research. While this role is based at the St. Joseph's Health Centre site, this individual will foster partnerships and collaboration within both Unity Health Toronto and the broader health care system, contributing to new innovative models of care for patients. The successful candidate will have a personal record of excellence in clinical activity, administration and leadership in research and/or education.

This individual will promote equity and diversity in the department, recognizing this as a major determinant of success. The Chief will be responsible for physician oversight and delivery of clinical and academic activities within the Department and will ensure the highest quality in patient care services. They will ensure the growth of the departmental research and education programs and will foster collaborations with the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, and external partners. The qualified applicant will, or be eligible to, hold a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatrics and/or one of its subspecialties and medical licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful applicant must have status to be eligible to hold the rank of Assistant Professor or higher in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
