Lead Hospitalist Opportunity - Headwaters Health Care Centre

Headwaters Health Care Centre is a community hospital operating as an acute and complex continuing care facility, offering both inpatient and outpatient services, as well as an Emergency Department with 24/7 coverage.  With over 700 staff and over 160 physicians, the hospital is accredited with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada.  Located in Orangeville, Ontario, we are at the heart of medical services for the Greater Dufferin area and other surrounding counties.  Our small town offers great opportunities for outdoor recreation, many thriving shops and restaurants, and lots of small-town charm.  We are conveniently located one hour from downtown Toronto.

Permanent positions, as well as part time positions, are available in Orangeville for our GP acute inpatient Hospitalist Program.  We are currently a group of 10 Hospitalists with an additional 5 physicians offering occasional coverage.  We support a catchment area of 100,000, at a hospital with 86 beds.  Our most immediate need is a Lead Hospitalist for this group.

As the Lead Hospitalist you would have excellent communication skills, strengths in working with teams, patients and families and prior hospitalist experience is preferred.  At Headwaters, Hospitalists work day-shifts in one-week blocks, Monday through Sunday, on site from 0800-1700 hours.  Minimum requirements to apply include a CPSO independent practice license and up to date ACLS certification.  Duties would include documented team meetings, scheduling, managing day to day issues unique to the program, support in recruitment and retention and orientation of new hospitalists to the program.

Renumeration for general hospitalist work is provided via daily stipend and a stipend is also offered for the Lead Hospitalist role.  The department is well supported by internal medicine who are available 24/7 along with multiple surgical specialties and diagnostic imaging.  A dedicated Physician Assistant also supports this program.  A separate call group exists to cover chronic care and palliative care patients.  There is a collaborative, interdisciplinary team of allied health professionals and administrative assistance to support this role.
