The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba is seeking a clinician-scientist (MD or MD/PhD) or scientist (PhD or equivalent) to fill the above-endowed research Chair. The Chair is designed to provide salary and/or operating funds to pursue independent research in the study of cardiovascular diseases, which is a priority of the Department of Internal Medicine. Major areas of research include: i) Population health, outcomes research, and health policy; ii) Translational research and identifying novel diagnostics or therapeutic targets; and iii) Foundational studies in cardiovascular biology in health and disease including bioinformatics approaches.

Candidates must have a strong track record in cardiovascular research appropriate to their career stage, as reflected by publications in high impact journals and peer-reviewed salary or operating funding from national granting agencies. They must have teaching experience and a strong record of mentoring trainees. They are expected to foster the training of clinicians and scientists and to promote and strengthen research interactions with other clinical and basic researchers within and outside the Department of Medicine.

This is a contingent position commencing July 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a term of five years, renewable for a second term contingent on a successful performance review. Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Cross appointment to a basic science department is possible, and some restricted clinical activity to ensure a clinical profile is desirable if the candidate is a clinician, but a minimum of 50% time devoted to research will be expected.

A successful MD or MD/PhD applicant must have Specialty qualifications in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. A successful scientist (PhD or equivalent) will seek/be offered cross-appointments with Basic Science Departments depending on their specialty to support their program of research.
