Locum Nocturnist

       Career Opportunity in     General Internal Medicine

The Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking Nocturnist Locums to provide evening and overnight coverage on weekends for the inpatient medicine units at Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital.  

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing unplanned medical care for admitted medicine patients. The role is supported by an in-house internist providing ED consultative services and an intensivist-led critical care response team. The Nocturnist Locum will be required to commit to at least 1-2 shifts per month.

The coverage hours are:

  • Brampton Civic Hospital:      Monday to Sunday: 1100pm to 800am. 
  • Etobicoke General Hospital:  Monday to Friday: 1100pm to 800am

                          Saturdays and Sundays: 800pm to 800am

 The expectations of the physician on this shift include coverage of inpatient ward calls (including admitted patients boarding in the ED) and code blue attendance together with the ED internist. 

The shifts will be remunerated at the COVID protected code blue hourly rate until March 31, 2023. You also have the option of billing fee for service if you so choose, but one cannot do both (i.e. if hospital pays you the hourly rate, you cannot bill fee for service during those same hours).

As an affiliated academic community teaching site for the McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and a key clinical partner for the new School of Medicine with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), there is opportunity to participate in clinical education with medical students and residents.

The successful applicant will be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills and an interest in clinical care.
