General Internal Medicine (multiple positions available)

Headwaters Health Care Centre is a community hospital operating as an acute and complex continuing care facility, offering both inpatient and outpatient services, as well as an Emergency Department with 24/7 coverage.  With over 700 staff and over 160 physicians, the hospital is accredited with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada.  Located in Orangeville, Ontario, we are at the heart of medical services for the Greater Dufferin area and other surrounding counties.  Our small town offers great opportunities for outdoor recreation, many thriving shops and restaurants, and lots of small-town charm.  We are conveniently located one hour from downtown Toronto.

Permanent positions, as well as part time locum positions, are available in Orangeville for General Internal Medicine.  We are a group of six General Internal Medicine specialists supporting a catchment area of 100,000, at a hospital with 75 beds.

As an internist at Headwaters, our current model has you participating in a one in six call rotation, doing emergency room consults, admissions, and ward work.  You will cover a Level-two 4 bed ICU, with roughly 40 ventilator patients per year.  Call is from home with expectation of availability at the hospital within 20 minutes of telephone contact.  We have an onsite hospitalist program, nephrology with dialysis, diabetic care, and operate an outpatient oncology program through a long-standing partnership with our oncology partners at William Osler Health System.  We have excellent relationships with referring centers for intensive care, stroke, and cardiology however, with no cardiologist or respirologists on staff at Headwaters, a general internist can work at full scope.  We do our own outpatient stress, nuclear stress, and pulmonary function tests.  We also perform a wide range of bedside procedures. In addition, there would be opportunity for Internist to participate in the Hospitalist, program if interested.  There is office space for lease within close proximity to the hospital.

Our community practices are ever growing, and we are looking for assistance in supporting the general medical outpatient referrals and follow-ups.  There are over 60 local family doctors, four general surgeons, four obstetricians, two plastic surgeons, and subspecialty surgeons in ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, and Urology.  We welcome general internists and those with specific sub-specialty interests to apply.

The ideal candidate would support our goals of providing high quality local internal medicine care (both hospital and community based), collaborating with internists and other hospital and community-based colleagues, and maintaining quality work life balance.
