Specialist in Psychiatry on ABI Program

McMaster University and  Hamilton Health Sciences are seeking a clinician educator in Psychiatry with expertise in neurologic impairment to join the Deparment of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) on the Acquired Brain Injury Program (ABI) at Hamilton General Hospital - Regional Rehabilitation Centre (HHS-RRC) and the Department of Medicine, Division of PM&R.  The position is best suited for a physician who is skilled in optimizing the mental health needs of brain injured survivors with demonstrated teaching ability, research experience and/or Quality Improvement training/experience.   Join a group of  highly skilled and motivated PM&R specialists and team.   

The successful candidate will practise in a dedicated inpatient rehabilitation setting with interprofessional teams.  There is direct linkage to the acute care hospital for seamless transfer between buildings.  The inpatient responsibility options are as follows: Most Responsible Physician for 6 patients on a Behavioural Unit and Consultation Service for a further 12 patients.  Remuneration is through OHIP billings plus a stipend to support the role.  PM&R consultation and a psychiatric registered nurse will co treat the patients.    

In addition, consultation to other areas of the hospital will be available as well as a weekly supported outpatient clinic.

Two interprofessional teams
30 inpatient beds
Rapid acute care consults
Outreach services
Full access to DI and laboratory support

The successful candidate will be a full time member of the Department of PM&R at Hamilton Health Sciences and The Division of PM&R, Department of Medicine at McMaster University with opportunity for cross appointment to the Department of Psychiatry. The Divisions of PM&R and Psychiatry support a robust residency program.  Teaching of residents and medical students from the McMaster DeGroote School of Medicine occurs on a daily basis clinically and periodically in the Academic Half Day for PM&R residents.   A growing fellowship program enhances this work. 

The successful candidate will be part of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hamilton Health Sciences and will be eligible for a full-time faculty appointment within the Division of

PM&R in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University.  Rank will be commensurate with experience and expected academic contributions.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the clinical and academic mission of Hamilton Health Sciences and the Division of PM&R.
