Great opportunity to take over a well-run Family Practice in Vernon, in BC’s Southern Interior. Work in the Okanagan, a beautiful region with a fantastic local ski hill with many others nearby. Beautiful lakes, parks and easy access to Kelowna International airport add to the benefits of living here as does reasonably priced housing. In the Summer, mountain bike or hike in the morning and relax on the lakes, visit a winery or play a round of golf in the afternoon!
The practice has a manageable and very stable list size with an excellent mix of patients with unlimited capacity to expand the list if you wish. The retiring physician does not do obstetrics or hospital work, but both are available but definitely not required. He is in a one in 12 weekend out of hours call rota with 11 other doctors for the local senior facilities and hospice, but the cover is not in any way onerous. Vernon has an excellent hospital, plus 2 walk-in clinics and an excellent urgent primary care centre. There is well respected hospice and several nursing homes.
The retiring doctor works in an office in central Vernon with 4 other physicians. The overheads are very low, usually less than 20%. There is a good team of staff and a practice manager. The office is virtually paperless and highly computerised using MedAccess EMR. Currently the doctor works 3.5 days a week, but this could easily be expanded to four days in office (using two consulting rooms per physician) and other time could be used to work remotely if you wish. The physicians generally cover each other for vacations if required.
Earnings are currently fee for service. With the newly approved Master agreement now accepted and likely starting in February, earnings with the current patient numbers would easily exceed $450,000 and likely substantially higher than that particularly if working full time. You could work as little or as much as you want to gain that perfect work life balance.
