Clinical Academic Position – Neurologist (Stroke Specialist)

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the Department of Medicine at Windsor Regional Hospital is seeking a full-time Stroke Neurologist to join Windsor Regional Hospital's stroke service. The candidate will fill a clinical academic role as a Clinician Teacher at Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will hold a limited-term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Windsor campus.

The Division of Neurology in the Department of Medicine at the Windsor Regional Hospital has 5 adult neurologists, including 1 stroke neurologist.  The hospital has an enhanced district stroke center and has provided hyperacute stroke treatment to the region for the last twenty years. It also has a stroke prevention clinic, and a 16-bed acute stroke unit.  Three additional stroke neurologists have been recruited to expand the stroke program, starting July 2023.  EVT treatment is available 24/7 by 3 Interventionalists currently.  The hospital has participated in several multicenter clinical trials in stroke in the past and is planning to enhance participation in stroke research.  Section members teach medical students and residents at hospital and in the Windsor campus of the Schulich School of Medicine.  A single site new state-of-the-art acute care hospital is due to begin construction in the next few years which will provide further opportunity to expand neuroscience program.

 

The successful candidate will have a record of proven ability for education and will have completed at least two years of clinical fellowship training in Cerebrovascular Disease AND at least two years of clinical fellowship training in Interventional Neuroradiology in a high-volume centre. Ideally, the candidate should have earned a diploma as a Scholar in Stroke Medicine granted by the Canadian Stroke Consortium or an equivalent international certification.

 

Candidates will be expected to have been involved in graduate and undergraduate education and supervision of postgraduate students. Candidates will have a track record of academic presentations at hospital rounds and lecturing at national or international scientific meetings. Experience in designing and implementing quality improvement initiatives will be considered a strength for this position. Although this is a position for a Clinician Teacher, candidates are expected to be involved in research activities as part of their academic appointment and therefore expected to have published actively in peer-reviewed journals in the last 3 years. Ideally, the candidate should be able to demonstrate a history of established national or international research collaborations. Preference will be given to candidates proficient in English, with basic knowledge of French and Spanish.

 

Clinical work will include the TIA Clinic, Urgent Neurology clinic, stroke consults, inpatient stroke service, and Stroke/General Neurology calls at the Metropolitan and Ouellette campuses, including nighttime and weekend coverage. The successful candidate will have an equal share in the EVT call schedule.

 

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be exclusively composed of fee for service.
