The Division of Developmental Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics at The University of British Columbia (UBC), located at Sunny Hill Health Centre (SHHC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) to join their well-established program.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of British Columbia, British Columbia Children’s Hospital (BCCH), and SHHC are among the largest Pediatric Departments in Canada. The Division of Developmental Pediatrics promotes excellence in clinical practice, education, and research in child development and rehabilitation. Its mission is to develop, share and utilize new knowledge that will enhance the health of children with developmental conditions and their families.

The BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) is a partnership of UBC and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) whose programs include BC Children’s Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children and the BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. The BCCHR is dedicated to high-quality research spanning a wide range of concerns relevant to children’s and family health.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Pediatrics, the incumbent will be a Clinician Scientist and will be expected to establish an active independent research program in translational medicine at the intersection of child development, gender diversity and pediatric pain that will accelerate evidence-based clinical pain care; within this, the successful candidate will forge productive collaborations with other members of the division and Sunny Hill, BCCH and BCCHR, including collaborations with the Complex Pain Service at BCCH. The incumbent will have a track-record that supports development of a patient-oriented clinical research program addressing quality improvement for pediatric pain care. The successful candidate will be qualified to lead a pioneering translational research program to develop and implement personalized treatment approaches to pain care in under-represented populations of children (e.g. developmental disabilities, gender-diverse youth, marginalized and indigenous communities) in BC. The incumbent’s time will be well-protected to allow the establishment of a vibrant research program.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology and be eligible for registration as a registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of BC. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching activities of the unit. The incumbent will also show demonstrated ability in scholarly activity and will be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
