Serving over 300,000 people in an area spanning 600,000 square kilometers, Northern Health is the publicly funded Regional Health Authority providing healthcare for the northern two-thirds of British Columbia. Inclusive of 55 First Nations, 10 Métis Nation chartered communities, and numerous municipal governments, Regional Districts, and Regional Hospital Districts, Northern Heath’s region is tremendously diverse culturally, geographically, and economically, and offers something for everyone. The Authority operates over two dozen acute care facilities, 13 long-term care facilities for seniors, and community and public health services including addictions and mental health treatment facilities and Primary. It employs over 9000 people and is recognised as a leader and innovator in relation to rural and remote healthcare.

The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Northern Health Authority has the overall responsibility for the delivery and management of health services in the Northern Health region in the Province of British Columbia. This responsibility includes the continuum of health services organized as primary and community care, specialized community service programs (Mental Health & Substance Use, Medically Complex & Frail Elderly, and Cancer Care), population and public health, acute care hospitals, and assisted living & long-term care. They are accountable to the Board of Directors of the Northern Health Authority (the Board) for the overall leadership and management of the region in accordance with the mission, vision, values, and strategic directions laid out in the Northern Health Strategic Plan, the mandate provided to the Northern Health Board by the Minister of Health, and the Budget Management Plan from the Ministry of Health, as well as the legislation, regulations, policies, and standards applicable to the health system.

The ideal candidate is a highly successful leader and relationship builder, with a proven passion and drive to deliver excellence and quality in healthcare, who is adept at working across complex, diverse, multi-partner systems to coalesce people around a common vision. Passionate and resilient in the face of multiple complex challenges, Northern Health’s President & CEO will possess a respected strength of character that develops trust and respect from professional colleagues, community leaders, government partners, citizens, and patients, and will bring the capacity to innovate and be a catalyst for transformational change, while honouring the positive history and proven successes of the organization.

The new CEO will live and model the values of Northern Health and work collaboratively with a multitude of partners to deliver outstanding healthcare and public health services across Northern Health’s large geographic area. Inclusive and highly visible, they will be dedicated to serving the needs of citizens, embrace technology and data-informed decision making, and possess the ability to make difficult decisions and resolve conflicting issues between competing agendas using exceptional critical reasoning skills. Critically, the CEO will be known for being able to successfully develop and execute strategies and will bring proven experience in understanding the financial realities of providing healthcare within the BC and/or Canadian context.
