Emergency Medicine Physicians

Emergency Medicine – Belleville General Hospital

The Division of Emergency Medicine at Quinte Health Belleville General Hospital is seeking additional emergency medicine physicians.

The Quinte Health Belleville General Hospital Emergency Department sees over 42,000 cases annually in our newly constructed facility.

Physicians benefit from an exceptional group of dedicated emergency nurses and 24-hour support from family medicine, internal medicine, intensive care, general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, pediatrics, anesthesia, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, and radiology. Support is also available from cardiologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists, and a nephrologist. Quinte Health has a 18 bed Intensive Care Unit.

Physicians have access to 3 point-point-of-care ultrasound machines, an endocavitary probe, and a transesophageal probe in the ER. There is state of the art diagnostic equipment, in the radiology department, including a 64 multi-slice CT scanner with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and an MRI. Ultrasounds and CTs are available 24/7.

Our local tertiary care facility Kingston General Hospital is only 45 minutes away and provides excellent support as our regional site for neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery, and definitive trauma care.

Considering our proximity to Kingston, and the Queen’s University Belleville Family Medicine Program, several emergency physicians are affiliated with Queen's University as Assistant Professors and regularly participate in resident training.

Members receive outstanding remuneration based on our AFA. The division also has an educational program.

We are looking for emergency physicians with CCFP-EM or FRCPC-EM designations. Applicants must be current with ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario.

Emergency Medicine physician opportunities are also available at our North Hastings Hospital Trenton Memorial Hospital, and Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, with physicians, if interested, able to work at more than one site. There may be opportunities to combine Emergency Medicine work with Family Medicine.

Quinte Health has 1,800 staff members and 320 medical staff who provide a wide range of high quality health care services to a region of 160,000 residents. Care is provided through four hospitals –Belleville General Hospital, North Hastings Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospitals – and includes four emergency departments, operating rooms at three sites, inpatient services (including acute medicine, intensive care, obstetrics, paediatrics, mental health, complex continuing care, rehabilitation and surgery), a rehabilitation day hospital, children's treatment centre, ambulatory care clinics, community mental health programs, and a range of diagnostic services.

The Quinte area is in south-eastern Ontario. Our hospitals are located in Belleville, Picton, Quinte West (includes Trenton and Brighton), and Bancroft. The area includes some of the most diverse and beautiful countryside in Ontario. From the lakes of Bancroft down to the wine country, picturesque towns, and Sandbanks beach of Prince Edward County, and through the more urban Belleville/Quinte West/Brighton corridor alongside Lake Ontario, almost every lifestyle interest can be found within the communities served by Quinte Health. The region offers low cost of living, affordable homes, and excellent schools as well as quality local theatre, shopping and restaurants. Belleville and Quinte West are located along the highway 401 corridor, and Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Kingston are all easy driving distance.
