Academic Nephrologist: Clinician Scholar

The Division of Nephrology within the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for the position of Academic Nephrologist. Candidates with a special interest and training in home dialysis will be given preference. Interest and training in transplantation will also be considered an asset.

The Division of Nephrology provides clinical care to a large catchment area with general and specialty clinics, and has an active subspecialty training program, as well as externally funded research programs. The Division of Nephrology operates within a group practice plan, sharing responsibilities based on individual role descriptions and Divisional deliverables.

The successful candidate will have major clinical responsibilities as part of a clinician-scholar role description and will be expected to demonstrate exemplary clinical service and leadership. Clinical focus of the position will be primarily in the area of home dialysis, but the incumbent will also be expected to provide support to other divisional deliverables including transplantation and other nephrology clinics (within Kingston and the region of Southeastern Ontario), ward and consultation services, and periodic attendance on the general internal medicine clinical teaching unit. Formal advanced training in home dialysis and transplantation will be considered assets.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong potential for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as exhibit a strong potential for innovative scholarly research contributions. The successful candidate must also demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. The incumbent will be expected to make contributions through service to the Department, the Faculty, the University, and/or the broader community.

Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Nephrology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Preference will also be given to those with post-fellowship training in the areas of home dialysis and transplantation.
