The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology in partnership with Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health, invites applications for an Academic Division Director and Clinical Section Chief. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Hematology consists of approximately 20 hematologists encompassing several hospitals. The Division provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a wide variety of benign and malignant hematologic disorders. It is the primary hematology referral centre for central and northern Alberta and Northwest Territories, with a catchment area of over 2 million people. There is a strong emphasis on undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as research within the Division, and ample support is provided to clinical investigators, researchers and educators.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Hematology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) as clinical service is required as part of this appointment. Additional academic training would be an asset. The ideal candidate will have previous medical leadership experience in a dynamic academic and healthcare environment, preferably in an established academic role. This leadership position also includes appointment as Section Chief within Alberta Health Services in the Edmonton Zone. Candidates must have significant experience in the clinical service arena as well as the academic environment and must understand the interplay between these two pillars of academic medicine.

Key accountabilities of the Division Director position are to the Chair, Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry as well as Alberta Health Services Zone Clinical Department Head, Medicine.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement. Academic rank would be commensurate with previous experience and eligibility.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) and is highly competitive. Income is in accordance with a step-wise progression package and will be commensurate with education and experience. Successful candidates for the Division Director and Section Chief position could expect appointment at or near the top of the remuneration grid. Tenure stream positions also have a comprehensive benefit package in accordance with the Faculty Agreement.
