Queen’s Health Sciences (QHS) and its affiliated teaching hospitals (Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Providence Care) invite applications for the position of Head of the Department of Oncology.  Th Oncology Department leads a strong regional cancer program in southeastern Ontario that drives high quality and standardized cancer care. The Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario and Kingston Health Sciences Centre provides advanced and complex cancer care to a catchment population of over 500,000 people.

As an innovative and visionary leader, the Head, Department of Oncology will lead and support oncology clinical activities across the continuum of care in southeastern Ontario.  The ideal candidate will bring a track record of success in academic leadership, with the ability to manage teams that will foster excellence in clinical care, education, and research. The preferred candidate will also be a strategic and creative thinker, who will leverage existing strengths in the Department, the University, and beyond to advance Oncology as a discipline. We are searching for an individual with a drive to contribute to the advancement of long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with University, Hospitals, provincial and community stakeholders, including Cancer Care Ontario. In order to do so, they will exhibit excellent relationship building, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to represent and advance the interests of both the Department of Oncology and QHS. A comprehensive, demonstrated understanding of the full healthcare system spectrum, from primary care to acute to subacute, long term and community care will be key for this role.

The Queen's Department of Oncology is known internationally for programs of excellence in clinical trials, health services research, and global oncology. Regionally, the Department of Oncology has established the Queen’s University Improving Cancer Care Initiative (QUICC) that aims to improve the cancer care of patients in our region. The Department of Oncology also partners with basic, translational, health services, and clinical trials researchers in the Queen’s Cancer Research Institute (QCRI). Importantly, the Department of Oncology includes the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) which is an academic cooperative oncology group that designs and conducts clinical trials testing cancer therapy, supportive are and prevention interventions across Canada. CCTG is proud to be one of the national programs of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), the only non-American partner of the US National Clinical Trials Network, and collaborates with research cooperative groups around the world.

As an academic physician, qualified applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful applicant will hold a full-time academic appointment at Queen’s University. Preference will be given to applicants with proven cross-disciplinary leadership abilities and at least 10 years’ experience in academic Oncology. However, all applicants with a desire to lead a cohesive and growing clinical and academic department are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will participate in shared clinical care services.
