CLINICAL ACADEMIC POSITION – DIVISION CHAIR

Chief (St. Joseph’s Health Care London) & Site Physician Lead (London Health Sciences Centre)

The Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and St. Joseph’s Health Care London and London Health Sciences Centre are seeking a Chair and Chief/Site Physician Lead for the Division of Rheumatology. 

The Division of Rheumatology currently has 9 members and is well-recognized and respected both nationally and internationally.  The Division’s physicians provide subspecialty care in rheumatology servicing a catchment of more than 1 million.  There are general rheumatology clinics and subspecialty clinics in SLE, inflammatory myositis, systemic sclerosis, vasculitis, early rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and autoinflammatory conditions.  Many of these clinics provide opportunities for excellence in patient care, research and teaching.  The Division has a fully certified Royal College Subspecialty Training Program in the Department of Medicine.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed training in Rheumatology and be at the level of at least Associate Professor.  Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Rheumatology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.  Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in the province of Ontario.  

The successful candidate will hold a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Associate (Limited-Term or Continuing) or Professor (Continuing), determined by experience and qualifications at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will join a busy academic practice in rheumatology including teaching clinics, patient care and on call duties in rheumatology.  The Chair and Chief/Site Physician Lead will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching, and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate trainees if applicable.  Expectations include proficiency in research and/or education and/or administration and/or quality improvement.  Demonstration of leadership skills is strongly suggested.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of a competitive alternative funding and payment plan, and academic salary.
