CLINICAL ACADEMIC POSITION, DIVISION CHAIR

Chief (St. Joseph’s Health Care London) & Site Physician Lead (London Health Sciences Centre)

The Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and St. Joseph’s Health Care London and London Health Sciences Centre are seeking a Chair and Chief/Site Physician Lead of the Division of General Internal Medicine.  The successful applicant will lead a Division composed of 20 dynamic academic General Internists.  The Division is responsible for inpatient clinical deliverables that include the supervision of learners on the Clinical Teaching Units (5 CTUs, 85% weeks covered by GIM), and 2 Perioperative and GIM Consultation Services.  Ambulatory deliverables include Urgent GIM and GIM Longitudinal Clinics, Preoperative Assessment Clinics, and a variety of clinics that reflect expanded areas of clinical expertise within the faculty (Obstetrics Medicine, Bariatrics, Heart Function, Hypertension).  Divisional areas of scholarly focus and research include Quality Improvement, Medical Education, Perioperative Medicine and Point-of-Care Ultrasound.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed training in Internal Medicine.  Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in General Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.  Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in the province of Ontario. 

The successful candidate will hold a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Associate (Limited-Term or Continuing) or Professor (Continuing), determined by experience and qualifications at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will join a busy academic practice within the practice of General Internal Medicine.  Their clinical and academic roles will be negotiable and reflect the candidate’s academic focus and areas of clinical expertise.  The Chair and Chief/Site Physician Lead will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching, and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise residents in Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine.  Expectations include proficiency in research, education and/or administration.  The successful candidate will be expected to lead the academic and clinical mission of the Division; demonstration of leadership skills is strongly suggested.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of a competitive alternative funding and payment plan, and academic salary.
