The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are inviting applications for the position of an Academic General Internist. This full-time appointment will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto with a position description as a Clinician Teacher (CT) at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. It is expected that the position will be approximately 70% clinical and 30% related to education innovation and leadership. Expected start date is July 1, 2024 or another mutually agreeable date thereafter.
We are seeking a physician who will deliver and foster excellence in academic general internal medicine. The successful candidate will join the Division of General Internal Medicine, which currently has 20 full time members. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in general internal medicine clinical activities with a predominant presence on the hospitalist fellowship training program. This training program currently has fourteen fellows per year, who are seeking additional training in hospitalist medicine, and come from backgrounds of either International Medical Graduates or Canadian-trained family physicians. At least 75% of clinical time will be spent in this area, with up to 25% spent across other GIM areas (which may include clinical teaching units, medical consulting, and ambulatory services). The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake educational activities of the Division, with a particular focus on overseeing curriculum and assessment for the hospitalist fellowship training program; and provide exceptional undergraduate and postgraduate teaching when on other GIM services also.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, have or be eligible for certification in Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have or be eligible for medical licensure in Ontario. The successful applicant will have a proven academic record of excellence in education. Advanced training and demonstrated achievement in teaching and education is required (such as a strong track record of teaching, awards, or education scholarship). Additional training and expertise in POCUS would be an asset.
Estimated compensation will be in the range of $250,000-$300,000 commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will also be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
