Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) is a 260+ bed, acute care facility boasting stable, state-of-the-art Programs within a team environment and with a dedicated staff that ensures high-level, patient-focused care. The organization comprises of two main hospital sites, the Brantford General Hospital and Willet Hospital in Paris. Located in the picturesque Grand River Valley 20 minutes west of Hamilton, our community offers outstanding recreational opportunities.

BCHS is the area’s acute care facility, providing all of Brantford and Brant County's specialty programs and services for our 120,000+ residents. It is a regional centre for general, orthopedic, ENT, urology, ophthalmology, plastics, gynecology/obstetrics and oral maxillofacial surgery.

The division of General Surgery is recruiting a locum tenens General Surgeon to provide coverage for our group of 5 full-time equivalent surgeons providing services at Brantford General Hospital and in the community. The incumbent will have access to operating room and endoscopy time allocated to General Surgery with an expectation of on-call responsibility.  Amount of coverage is flexible, and a schedule will be developed as a group with a planned starting date July 2024.

Interested physicians must be certified in general surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent and be licensed, or eligible for licensure, for independent practice in Ontario by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Additional fellowship training is not a requisite. A broad-based skill set and desire to practice the full breadth of General Surgery is imperative.

BCHS is affiliated with McMaster University as a Mac-CARE site and provides opportunities for continuing education, teaching and research for professional staff.

BCHS serves a high population of indigenous persons in the region therefore culturally appropriate care for indigenous patients is a priority to the organization. Physicians with experience and an interest in caring for indigenous persons are encouraged to apply.
