The Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University invites applications for the position of Academic Glaucoma Specialist. This role and the successful incumbent’s time will be heavily focused on clinical and surgical service in the field of Ophthalmology and relevant sub-specialty.

The Department has an excellent residency program in Ophthalmology (with 12-13 residents). The Department enjoys an excellent reputation for employing innovative and enthusiastic teachers for learners at all levels. Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong track record or exhibit strong potential for clinical, surgical, and didactic teaching.

The successful incumbent will hold an MD degree. Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will also be given to individuals who have completed 1 year of subspecialty training in glaucoma.  The incumbent will be expected to have a busy glaucoma practice, performing a wide range of adult glaucoma procedures, cataract surgery, and less commonly, pediatric glaucoma surgeries.  The position requires the successful candidate to share comprehensive ophthalmology city-wide on-call service with the remainder of the Department (approximately 4-6 weeks per year) and to be available to consult with the on-call team about glaucoma patients.  Participation in the urgent “red eye” clinic is also expected. All members of the department participate in teaching (medical school and post-graduate level), administrative work, and research commiserate with their job description defined annually with the department head.

This position will be funded on a fee-for-service basis. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.
