The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, Children’s Hospital at LHSC and St Joseph’s Health Care London invite applications for the position Chair/Chief/Department Head for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.  

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is built on a strong foundation of established academic and clinical programs. As an academic department, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery has always valued above all else, an outstanding surgical training program and exceptional residents.  The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery’s reputation as a training program is strong, including full accreditation as a surgical residency.

A talented Otolaryngologist is being sought to capitalize on this unique transformational opportunity to lead the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery into its next phase of academic and clinical excellence.  The Chair/Chief/Department Head will have demonstrated academic excellence based on productivity and impact in research or education combined with a strong track record of leadership resulting in effective transformative change.  They will commit to the primary goal of harnessing the considerable energy, passion, expertise, and potential present to elevate the Department’s collective academic performance.  Applicants will be evaluated on their approach to successfully achieving impactful change. They should model a progressive leadership style that fosters a culture of respect, equity and inclusivity; and they should demonstrate the ability to build a strong leadership team and to effectively delegate responsibilities. 

The successful candidate is expected to be involved with the Executive Leadership Committee of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC and to work with Senior Leaders at St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s). They will participate in developing and implementing hospital strategies, and participate in Master planning.  The Chair/Chief/Department Head will commit to ensuring delivery of the highest quality of care, granting annual privileges and monitoring the code of conduct for all its members. They will be an exceptional leader with the vision and scholarly profile to understand and develop the complex interrelationships between the clinical, teaching and research strengths of the Department in an evolving health care system.

Fully affiliated with Western University and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, LHSC and St. Joseph’s collectively support the training of more than 1,800 health-care professionals per year.                            

Both St. Joseph’s and LHSC are known as integral parts of the London community, offering compassion and state-of-the-art care for the patients they serve.

The successful candidate must be an accomplished clinician with an MD or equivalent, be eligible to be certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligible for College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario registration for licensure in the Province of Ontario.  Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternate funding plan and academic support.

The successful candidate will hold a full-time continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The position will have an initial 5-year term, normally renewable once and is subject to a mid-term review. Academic rank will be based on qualifications and experience.
