Job Details
Position Title: Psychiatrist, Clinical Services
Status: Contract, Trusted Partner
Hours: Flexible 1-2 days per week, in person and virtual
Faculty/Department: Student Success and Engagement
Campus/Location: North and/or Lake campus and virtual
Salary: Through OHIP and International Student Insurance billing
What you will do:
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management services to our diverse student population. They will join a team of dedicated nurses, physicians, counsellors, and support staff whose mission is to empower students to discover their potential and facilitate conditions that promote student success and wellbeing.
Humber Polytechnic offers health and wellness services to all Humber students. Over 30% of issues seen by our physicians are mental health related with increasing numbers of complex presentations. This includes borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, complex ADHD/ Anxiety/ depression overlaps and suicidal ideation.
Students will first be seen by our Humber Physicians and then referred for psychiatric assessment for more complex mental health issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostic psychiatric evaluations, formulate treatment plans, and provide ongoing medication management
- Expertise in treating complex mental health conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, and psychotic disorders.
- Experience working with youth and young adult populations, understanding their unique developmental needs.
- Ability to manage high-risk cases involving safety concerns, psychopharmacology, and crisis intervention.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records per institutional policies
- Provide consultation and training to staff on psychiatric topics as needed
- Collaborate with the physicians, nursing and counselling team as part of case conference management for more complex situations.
What you bring to the role:
With a spirt of collaboration, inclusion, empathy and expertise, the successful applicant will hold a MD designation and will have advanced training and experience in psychiatry beyond residency, with a preference given to experience with young adults, transitional aged youth (TAY) and candidates with a minimum of 2 years practice experience.
The applicant will work as part of an inter-professional team with a focus on the treatment of complex and co-morbid metal health issues in youth and adults with an average age range between 18 – 30.
Applicants must be licensed in the Province of Ontario, hold a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons specialty certification in psychiatry or equivalent and have Canadian Medial Protective Associate (CMPA) coverage.
