The Department of Psychiatry at Brockville General Hospital invites applications from qualified candidates for part-time or full-time position as a Psychiatrist. The incumbent will join a closely-knit team focused on providing safe, effective care in a collaborative, collegial, and multi-disciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief of the Psychiatry Department, the Psychiatrist supports stabilization and treatment services for patients with acute mental illness, which includes:

  • Providing patient-centred care to adults 16 years of age and older
  • Participating in medical staff meetings and committees as required
  • Ensuring medical practice is compatible with the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic direction
  • Participating in a culture of continuous quality improvement aligned to standards of excellence
  • Participation in a one-in-six weekday / weekend on-call rotation
  • Supporting a combination of adult inpatient, outpatient, and ECT services
  • Mentoring medical learners and residents

Practice Environment

Brockville General Hospital is a 160-bed hospital in the city of Brockville, which is 45 minutes from Kingston and an hour from Ottawa. Brockville General is the largest hospital in Lanark, Leeds, and Grenville County, serving a catchment area of 250,000. Located in the beautiful Thousand Islands Region, we are the perfect place to practice and play as reflected in Imagine Brockville Life.

The practice environment includes a comprehensive mental health services program, a 24-bed Inpatient Unit, ECT, Outpatient Team, Crisis Team, Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT), community mental health and addictions programming, and coordinated access to regional mental health programs through a Central Intake Team. In addition, there is an opportunity for an academic appointment and participation in post graduate medical education through Queen’s University, Faculty of Medicine.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have an M.D. or equivalent, be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Psychiatry) and have a fully unrestricted license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). In addition, the incumbent should possess great interdisciplinary collaboration skills and be willing to strive for excellence. Proficiency in English is required.

Remuneration

A competitive remuneration package is available which includes a stipend, fee-for-service, as well as HOCC.
