St. Michael’s Hospital is a leading academic health sciences centre, renowned for providing excellent, efficient and integrated care experiences for all, who along with St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Providence Healthcare forms Unity Health Toronto, a network of Catholic Healthcare institutions.  Affectionately known as the Urban Angel, St. Michael’s is leading in cutting-edge specialty programs, and breaking new ground in health AI, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and operational efficiency.  As one of just two trauma centres in the Greater Toronto Area and downtown Toronto’s adult trauma centre, the hospital is a hub for neurosurgery, complex cardiac and cardiovascular care, minimally invasive surgery and critical care.  St. Michael’s Hospital also cares for the largest number of people with experience of homelessness in the province, illustrating commitment to our mission and values. Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and home to the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, St. Michael’s sits at the forefront of global health research, innovation and education.

The St. Michael’s Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is a crucial access point for urgent and emergent care, playing a pivotal role in our goal to advance health care excellence through education, research and innovation. With approximately 70,000 visits annually, the ED serves a diverse population and is integral to the hospital’s function as a Level 1 trauma centre. The ED also supports a number of highly specialized regional programs, which include stroke, neurosurgery and STEMI. The ED is committed to providing compassionate, high quality care that prioritizes accessibility, equity, and inclusivity for our communities. The St. Michael’s ED is in the midst of completing a multi-year renovation and expansion.

The Department seeks a visionary leader with outstanding administrative and leadership skills, in particular with experience in systems leadership, developing partnerships and providing mentorship and support of academic physicians in career growth, wellness, and change management.  A strong academic track record in research, education, or quality improvement and leadership are required.  The successful candidate will ensure research growth and foster collaborations with the Keenan Research Centre, the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, and external partners.
