The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, IWK Health Centre, and the Department of Pathology, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, seek a full-time academic Anatomical Pathologist with expertise in both Pediatric/Perinatal Pathology and Neuropathology.
Candidates should be academically oriented, possess Anatomical Pathology certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and have training or applicable experience in both Pediatric/Perinatal Pathology and Neuropathology. Applicants well-qualified in one of these areas and open to further training in the other will also be considered.
The diagnostic workload includes pediatric surgical pathology including neuropathology, placental/perinatal pathology, and autopsy pathology/neuropathology. Participation in quality assurance, teaching of students and pathology residents, clinicopathologic case conferences, and on-call services are additional components of the role.
The successful applicant will join a collegial group at the IWK Health Centre, including three other Pediatric/Perinatal Pathologists, as well as Lab Medicine colleagues in Hematopathology, Medical Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Cytogenetics, and Molecular Biology. There are opportunities to consult and collaborate with subspecialty-trained pathologists at the adjacent Queen Elizabeth II Department of Pathology. Remuneration and Dalhousie Medical School academic rank are commensurate with experience and level of academic activity.
The IWK Health Centre is a full service pediatric and obstetrical tertiary referral center for the three Maritime Provinces. The hospital includes a 150-bed children’s wing, specialized pediatric surgical services including neurosurgery, pediatric oncology and other specialties, neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, a 197-bed maternity wing, high-risk obstetric care including maternal-fetal medicine specialists, and approximately 5000 deliveries per year.
The Dalhousie University Department of Pathology trains residents in Anatomical, General and Hematopathology. The IWK Health Centre has programs and facilities specifically tailored to assist faculty who are developing their research careers. Protected academic time, commensurate with the candidate's prospects for research success, can be provided.
