The Department of Psychiatry (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/psychiatry/) is organized around four academic Divisions including General Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry, as well as recognized Programs in Neuropsychiatry and Developmental Disabilities. Our Divisions and Programs provide an academic home for approximately 80 clinical academics and 6 basic scientists and support education, training and research in each of these areas.
We are seeking an academic psychiatrist to work with our Geriatric Psychiatry Program at LHSC, with the opportunity for collaborative work with St. Joseph’s Health Care London. Opportunities for duties in inpatient, ambulatory including outreach, and consultation-liaison areas exist and can be negotiated. The successful candidate will be actively involved with the education of medical students, general psychiatry residents, and subspecialty residents. The candidate must have record of relevant teaching experience with outstanding evaluations; have demonstrated expertise and/or experience in Geriatric Psychiatry and consultation-liaison; with an ability to function and lead multidisciplinary teams. In addition, there are opportunities to participate in clinical research activities with many resources to foster career development. The position includes an attractive compensation package based on qualifications and experience and composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support. Relocation expenses may also be negotiable.
The successful candidate will be a member of the division of Geriatric Psychiatry which has multiple linkages with other psychiatric facilities, community and homecare agencies, long term care, and local Alzheimer Society Chapters. At the core of our success are strong partnerships with the Division of Geriatric Medicine and health partners such as the South West Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN 2). Together we advocate for and build effective integrated and coordinated service for the care of the elderly. Membership includes an inter-professional group of health care professionals, including geriatric psychiatry, psychology, advance practice nursing, social work, and health care leadership. The successful applicant will receive an initial three year limited term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Candidates must also be eligible for certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Candidates with certification in Geriatric Psychiatry or a plan to obtain this qualification are strongly preferred.
London is a medium-sized city (population 360,000) with the amenities of a large city and a small-town feel. The regional catchment area population is approximately 1,500,000. Known as the Forest City because of its many trees, it is a short drive from the Lake Huron and Erie coasts and close to excellent summer theatre, including the Stratford Festival.
