Radiation Oncologist, Head & Neck/CNS Focus

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) is seeking a full-time innovative, academic leader in Radiation Oncology with experience in modern radiation oncology and head and neck radiotherapy.  Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. The Odette Cancer Centre is the comprehensive cancer program of SHSC and houses one of North America’s most dynamic radiation oncology programs. SHSC provides an exciting and dynamic research environment for radiation oncologists to work alongside a diverse team of health care professionals which include 29 radiation oncologists.  Over 7000 new radiation oncology patients are seen each year at the Odette Cancer Centre which is equipped with 13 linear accelerators, gamma knife, MR-Brachytherapy, MR-Linac, in addition to PET/CT and MR imaging. The centre offers advanced clinical and research programs in IMRT, IGRT, SRS, and SBRT and has a medical physics department comprised of over 40 staff. The academic radiation oncology cancer program at SHSC is one of North America's largest.

The candidate is expected to develop an active radiation oncology practice in treating tumours with MR-based technology in head and neck cancer. The candidate will have radiation oncology training and appropriate additional fellowship or staff-level experience in head and neck and/or CNS oncology. Demonstrated experience in head and neck and CNS oncology, including spine SBRT, and gamma-knife treatment is required. Staff level experience is desired. It is expected that they will lead and contribute to the development of new oncologic indications for MR-based Linac technology in head and neck oncology.  It is expected that they will also contribute to a growing CNS-spine oncology practice. The successful candidate will have protected academic time and is expected to develop and conduct an active academic research program complementary to ongoing work in radiation biology, or radiation physics, HIFU/hyperthermia, imaging, or technology research, or clinical epidemiology in addition to participating fully in the teaching programs of the Department. The successful applicant must also be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of Ontario and an academic appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto, at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher and should be eligible for appointment at the Sunnybrook Research Institute. Candidates with the potential to be appointed in the latter in the Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or Evaluative Clinical Sciences platforms as a Scientist, and in Radiation Oncology as a Clinician Scientist are encouraged to apply. The primary language of work will be in English.

Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimated based on fee for service billing) but will be in the usual range for an experienced Oncologist in the Province of Ontario at approximately $220,000 - $350,000 per year and be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income from AFP may be available and merit from the Department of Radiation Oncology. Signing bonuses and other opportunities are negotiable and determined on an individual basis. Health benefit options and plans are supplied per company policy.
