CRANBROOK, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA).  The East Kootenay Regional Hospital, located at the foot of the Rockies in beautiful Cranbrook, BC, is seeking a General Pathologist (AP/CP) or Anatomical Pathologist with additional training in hematopathology to complete our 4.0 FTE pathology team.   Our group performs approximately 10,000 inpatient and outpatient surgical cases and 10-15 hospital autopsies per year, as well as non-gynecological cytopathology, frozen sections, and bone marrow biopsies.  There is also an opportunity to perform coroner’s autopsies if interested.  We have active hematology, transfusion medicine, and medical biochemistry services (with lesser involvement in microbiology), and provide medical leadership for all of the Interior Health laboratories in the East Kootenay region.  No evening or weekend call is required.  The vibrant, dedicated technical and support staff and engaging relationships shared with our clinical colleagues make for an exceptional work environment.  In conjunction with a diverse, well-rounded practice and location which engenders work-life balance, pathology in Cranbrook offers a highly fulfilling career.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills in surgical pathology, hematopathology, and laboratory diagnostics, and will be comfortable with independent practice in a small group environment.  Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong working relationships with the hospital and laboratory staff are also imperative.

The East Kootenay Regional Hospital serves a catchment of approximately 80,000 people, and supports a Level 4 BCCA oncology clinic, on-site MRI, and specialist services in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, and Radiology.  Cranbrook is surrounded by limitless outdoor recreation, including two nearby ski hills, and boasts the most hours of sunshine of any city in BC.  It is a thriving community with a modern theatre, lively arts community, professional hockey team, remarkable railway museum, and breathtaking scenery and wildlife – something for everyone!  Cranbrook is home to the College of the Rockies and an international airport, and is located 4 hours (392 km) from Calgary and 6 hours (529 km) from Kelowna.

Hours                        Full-time Monday-Friday; no weekend or on-call requirements
Compensation      $363,030 for 210 service days (Service Contract, provincially negotiated grid level)

Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement incentives

  • Recruitment incentive: $20,000
  • Retention fee premium: 14%
  • Retention flat fee: $12,240
  • Recruitment Visit Reimbursement of $3,500 ($7,000 per international candidate).

  • Relocation assistance: $10,000 maximum or $15,000 maximum if move is over 3,000 km's with eligible receipts.
