Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Nephrology

The Division of Nephrology, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), and the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto are seeking a full-time Clinician-in-Quality and Innovation. The successful applicant must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. It is expected that the position will be approximately 50-75% clinical and 25-50% teaching, quality improvement/research, and administration. Expected start date is January 1, 2019 or shortly thereafter.

We are ideally seeking a physician who will foster excellence in quality improvement and patient safety. Candidates with broad clinical and research interests related to Nephrology with a lifelong commitment to academic advancement, improvement in the health experience of patients, and the learning experience of trainees and students will be considered. Academic experience as demonstrated by publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades will be an asset. Advanced training in quality and evidence of scholarship is the minimum requirement for this position. Responsibilities will include excellence in clinical care (inpatient consultation and outpatient clinics) and clinical teaching, as well as active participation in research. The candidate should also be a team player and be a role model for interprofessional care. The primary language of work will be in English.

The Division of Nephrology within Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is an active academically active group of clinician scientists, investigators and teachers. Areas of interest include home dialysis, vascular access, hypertension, diabetic nephropathy, glomerulonephritis as well as kidney disease in pregnancy. We have a large hemodialysis population located over 2 sites and a growing home dialysis program. Our program now resides in new space well positioned to support patient care, teaching and research. Along with opportunities for collaboration among members of the other University of Toronto-affiliated teaching hospitals, the Sunnybrook Division has fostered linkages with the Ontario Renal Network at a provincial level, Institute of Clinical and Evaluative Sciences and the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation at a university level.

The successful candidates must hold an MD degree, have, or be eligible for, certification in Nephrology by the Royal College, or equivalent, and have, or be eligible for, licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Remuneration will be between the range of $300,000 – 350,000 (estimate based on fee-for-service billings) commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
