Acute Medicine Service - Internal Medicine / Level 2 Critical Care

This position in our Department of Emergency Medicine and Critical Care is primarily based at our Bowmanville site supporting acute medicine consultation along with a 6-bed Level 2 Critical Care Unit (CrCU) and 9-bed Telemetry Unit. You will provide Acute Medicine consultation services, and serve as Most Responsible Physician for all patients admitted to the CrCU, as MRP or consultant for patients on telemetry, and as the telemetry gatekeeper. You will also provide medical oversight to an in-hospital Critical Care Response Team in conjunction with other MRPs/ED physicians, staffed 24/7 by specially trained non-physician responders. You will provide roughly 1 in 3-4 weeks of coverage. Clinical support is readily available from our nearby tertiary care Oshawa site with extensive subspecialty and diagnostic resources. You will have RCPSC certification or equivalent in Internal Medicine with competency stabilizing critically ill patients and/or Critical Care Medicine subspecialty training/certification.

Supervising and teaching elective residents, clinical clerks and other interprofessional learners from Queen’s University and the University of Toronto are also important responsibilities. Application for a faculty appointment at our two affiliated Schools of Medicine will be supported.

Additional clinical opportunities may be available within the Lakeridge Health hospital sites (hospitalist/GIM for FRCPC Internal Medicine specialists, Level 3 Critical Care weeks for Critical Care subspecialists), or for outpatient internal medicine clinics at nearby affiliated community-based locations.
