General Internist

If you have a strong interest in general internal medicine and are confident with emergency room and inpatient management/ procedures, this could be the opportunity for you! In this practice you will work collaboratively with two existing General Internists including office, inpatient and emergency room consultations as well as hospital-based outpatient clinics. There are no mandatory local on-call responsibilities - you can finally enjoy your personal weekend time!

The ideal candidate would also be interested in collaborative management of chronic disease and preferably have an interest or subspecialty in respirology, rheumatology and/or gastroenterology. In addition, in this position you can enjoy teaching with locally placed UBC students and Family Medicine residents.

Kootenay Lake Hospital (KLH) is a 30-bed community hospital providing high quality health care services to residents and visitors of Nelson and the surrounding area of approximately 28,000 people. KLH has one of the busiest maternity services in the region with a very active integrated maternal/child health program including obstetric/gynecology and pediatric specialist support. In addition, KLH offers specialty clinics such as Healthy Heart, diabetes education, oncology and liver clinics as well as cardiac lab with stress testing, echocardiography and Holter monitoring. 

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory.

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for Service
  • Estimated Gross Income: $300,000+, plus MOCAP level 1

Rural Incentives include:

  • Recruitment bonus: $15,000
  • Relocation: $15,000 max (with eligible receipts)
  • Fee Premium: 11.62%
  • Annual retention fee: $12,107
  • CME funding: Up to 2 years $600; In 3rd & 4th year $3,600.00; after 4 years $6,600.00
