Exciting opportunity to join a well-established group practice with two other full-time physiatrists in beautiful Kelowna!

Kelowna General Hospital serves as a regional rehabilitation center with a large catchment area covering the Southern Interior and the Kootenays. KGH and provides tertiary rehabilitation services in both highly developed inpatient and outpatient services across the spectrum of rehabilitation needs, including but not limited to Stroke, Brain Injury, Prosthetics & Orthotics (with in-house shop), Spinal Cord Injury (incomplete), Multi-trauma, Complex Orthopedics, and Medical areas. In-patient service is currently divided equally between 3 full-time physiatrists, providing consultation service to the acute care hospital and directive care to the 38 beds on the rehabilitation unit. Current out-patient services include all general physiatry consults, as well as spasticity management, MS Clinic, and EMG services. EMG equipment and clinic time is available both within this group practice as well as at Kelowna General Hospital. Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 78,000 ED visits yearly. Adjacent to Kelowna General is the brand new Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features;  9 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac. Our state of the art Centennial Building also recently opened and boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, larger operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. KGH is entering its third year of training Royal College Emergency Medicine Physicians and also participates in training Family Physicians. With the state-of-the-art Interior Heart & Surgical Centre and new medical inpatient units in the Centennial Building, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building, and an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School, KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Manadatory;
  • EMG practice requires certification meeting the BC College Diagnostic Accreditation Guidelines

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full time
  • On call requirements: Secondary call only, primary call by Hospitalist or Family Physician services. No evening/weekends

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for Service
  • Estimated Gross Income: $300,000 - $500,000
  • Overhead cost associated with pricate practice only
  • Relocation assistance up to $10,000 maximum or $15,000 maximum if move is over 3,000 kms/international (with eligible receipts)
