Physician Lead and Medical Director, Patient Safety & Quality Improvement, Department of Medicine

Our clients, The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London are seeking an inspired exceptional leader to be the inaugural Physician Lead and Medical Director, Patient Safety & Quality Improvement, for the Department of Medicine.  Together, the hospitals provide comprehensive care to a large and geographically extended population of approximately 1.6 million people across Southwestern Ontario.

The mandate of this exciting new role is to provide visionary leadership to the Patient Safety & Quality Improvement Program in the Department and to develop and implement a leading edge “Centre of Quality Improvement” including a strategic plan complete with mission, vision, values, budget, research & education mandate, and organization design.

The inaugural Physician Lead and Medical Director will be an exceptional leader with the vision and scholarly profile to understand and nurture the complex interrelationships required to develop and implement a leading edge “Centre of Quality Improvement” that integrates with the clinical, teaching and research strengths of the Department in an evolving health care system and that is aligned with the University, Lawson Health Research Institute, London Health Sciences Centre and St Joseph’s Hospital. 

The position is a joint appointment by the University of Western Ontario and the participating facilities, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London.  It is a full-time commitment, apportioned 60% administrative and 40% clinical (including teaching and research) - negotiable.  The successful candidate will hold a full-time continuing Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor commensurate with experience and track record and will have the capacity to mentor and inspire junior faculty.

The successful candidate will hold an MD, or equivalent, be certified or eligible to be certified as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario.  The successful candidate can have a background in any subspecialty area and will have demonstrated academic productivity in the area of Quality – publications and/or program development.  Master’s or PhD level preparation or additional training in Quality Improvement, LEAN, Six Sigma or other quality related areas are welcome attributes.

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: stipend for protected administrative time, fee for service, alternate funding plan, and academic support.
