Family Practitioner

Northern Health is seeking a general practitioner to provide coverage in beautiful Bulkley Valley, Smithers, BC. Working in a warm and congenial local clinic, the General Practitioner, in addition to Primary Care, would provide ER on call rotational support, be part of the OB on call group, and be part of the doctor of the week rotation.

Bulkley Valley District Hospital is a 24 bed acute care facility providing emergency/outpatient, medical, surgical, maternity and palliative care services, and has one psychiatric observation unit. The facility supports home and community care services, a strong community cancer clinic, and a diverse visiting specialist/surgeon program. It also offers laboratory and radiology (x-ray, mammography, ultrasound), and pediatrics services.

Smithers is located in the picturesque Bulkley Valley surrounded by three mountain ranges which provide a backdrop for the town's Alpine setting. The main industries include forestry, tourism, transportation and agriculture. Smithers offers affordable housing and natural splendor that support a balanced lifestyle. There are golf courses, swimming, curling and skating rinks, and mountain biking and hiking trails. The population of Smithers is approximately 5,400 and home to some of the country's best skiing.

In order to be eligible for British Columbia licensure your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
