Physiatrist

With a changing demographic there is a need for two more physiatrists to join in specialty practice in Kamloops at Royal Inland Hospital. Royal Inland Hospital is a 239 bed Level II Trauma Centre and the third busiest in BC! The hospital provides tertiary rehab services in both highly developed inpatient and outpatient services across the spectrum of rehab services including specialized Hand Therapy, Wounds, Trauma, Amputee, Musculoskeletal, Rheumatologic, Stroke, Neurologic, and Work re-entry programs. There are 18 designated Rehabilitation beds, 4 Stroke Unit beds, and 9 transitional beds co-located on one hospital floor adapted to rehabilitation goals. There is a also a fully developed Electrodiagnostic laboratory. Well formed interdisciplinary teams are functioning at a high standard and there are crest of the wave developments in Stroke Rehab with designated unit developing programs to meet the Canadian Stroke Initiative accreditations.

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 246-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 62,000 visits per year.

 

Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services. Specialty services include Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Tertiary Inpatient and Community Psychiatric Services, non-interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology and others. Support services include: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, and CT scan, and Echocardiography. RIH also features TPA Stroke, Stroke Thrombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

 

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) manadatory;
  • EMG practice requires certification meeting the BC College Diagnostic Accreditation Guidelines

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full time Medical Practice
  • On call requirements: Secondary call only, primary call by Hospitalist or Family Physician services

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for Service
  • Estimated Gross Income: $300,000 - $500,000
  • Overhead cost associated with private practice only
  • Relocation assistance up to $10,000 maximum or $15,000 maximum if move is over 3,000 kms/international (with eligible receipts)
