Senior Medical Director, Primary Health Care

Working in a dyad partnership, the Senior Medical Director, Primary Health Care (SMD/PHC), will have a significant influence on the health outcomes of Albertans as they work to facilitate primary health options that are of high quality, accessible, and sustainable. Together with the Senior Program Officer, Primary Health Care (SPO/PHC), you will provide leadership to address province-wide primary health care priorities and use them to inform AHS priorities, strategies, and transformational initiatives. You will provide leadership to support the implementation of the Primary Care Network (PCN) Governance Framework, and work to ensure effective coordination with key AHS initiatives such as Enhancing Care in the Community and the priorities identified by the Quality, Safety, and Outcomes Executive Committee.</p> <p><strong>Description: </strong></p> <p>In this role, the Senior Medical Director (SMD) brings medical expertise and leadership to the dyad partnership with the Senior Program Officer (SPO) and their joint accountability for leading Primary Health Care (PHC) initiatives from strategic planning through implementation and monitoring of outcomes and metrics. In this role, you will collaborate on key provincial strategies for PHC and work to ensure primary health perspectives are considered in the development of AHS policy frameworks, strategies, workforce plans, and other initiatives, and that delivery of primary and community care is tailored to each community&rsquo;s health needs.</p> <p>You will provide leadership and help shape the culture of PHC by influencing the development of strategic plans and initiatives to support AHS organizational goals and priorities. Working as a change-leader, you recognize the need for change and are comfortable setting priorities accordingly. You will be able to effectively plan for and manage change, while ensuring quality management through ongoing monitoring.</p> <p>An excellent relationship builder, you will foster partnerships and build networks to achieve goals and to coordinate initiatives between AHS Zone and Primary Care Network partners, including Strategic Clinical Networks, primary care physicians and other health professionals, academic partners, provincial government, community leaders and organizations and patients and families. The SMD works to educate AHS stakeholders on the importance of primary health care in Alberta and collaborates with other medical leaders involved in provincial primary health care initiatives, including the Primary Care Alliance. You will also advise on the development and integration of Zone and provincial planning approaches that will support effective PHC service delivery models.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Required Qualifications: </strong></p> <ul> <li>Certification with the Canadian College of Family Physicians (preferred) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada</li> <li>Licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta</li> <li>A minimum of ten (10) years&rsquo; experience in leadership within a public healthcare system of significant size and complexity.</li> <li>A minimum of three (3) years&rsquo; experience in regional or provincial leadership related to primary and/or community care.</li> <li>Experience in community based clinical practice within the last 3 years.</li> <li>Possesses the skills to operate successfully in complex clinical and administrative environments and to work successfully with multidisciplinary teams.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in leading system wide change.</li> <li>Possesses strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.</li> <li>Ability to foster partnerships and build networks to achieve goals.</li> <li>Eligibility for a medical staff appointment with Alberta Health Services.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications: </strong></p> <ul> <li>Post graduate degree in public health administration or leadership.</li> <li>Experience in leading quality improvement, research and/or evaluation related to primary health care and/ or community healthcare services.</li> </ul> <p><a href="http://doctorjobsalberta.com/Jobs.TBD.Senior-Medical-Director,-Primary-Health-Care.20181116.aspx">Apply online and join our dynamic team today!</a> &nbsp;</p>
