Neurologist

Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC is seeking two full-time clinical neurologists to complement our collegial group of 4 neurologists. Come join one of the fastest growing medical communities in BC and be a part of the action as we prepare to open a new patient care tower in 2022.

In this position you will enjoy in-hospital dedicated clinic space and admin support along with a mix of office based practice. Hospital on-call coverage is expected with frequency approximately 1 in 5 to 1 in 6. There is also the option to provide outreach services for those who are interested. Experience the satisfaction of seeing patients in a well-run, established Stroke Unit and TIA Clinic as well as a full-service Neurodiagnostic Lab for EEG, EMG, Evoked Potentials, and Polysomnography. In addition, RIH recently developed an Acute Cardiology Service and opened a state-of-the-art ICU.

Subspecialty interests are welcomed for this role, particularly with MS, Parkinson’s and Stroke care. The current group has subspecialty certifications in Neurophysiology, Vascular Neurology and Movement Disorders and our tertiary care hospital offers an excellent team of emergency medicine physicians, hospitalists, five neurosurgeons (four active and one consulting), a physiatrist, intensivists, infectious disease specialists, two vascular surgeons, family physicians, general internists, radiologists, and other subspecialists that are a pleasure to work with. An added bonus, you can also enjoy the rewards of being actively involved in educating UBC medical students and residents, as RIH is affiliated with UBC Southern Medical Program.

Holidays and conference time away usually averages 4-8 weeks per year.

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 246-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 62,000 visits per year.

 

Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services. Specialty services include Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Tertiary Inpatient and Community Psychiatric Services, non-interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology and others. Support services include: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, and CT scan, and Echocardiography. RIH also features TPA Stroke, Stroke Thrombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

 

Qualifications:

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC; Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full time
  • On call requirements: 1:5 or 1:6

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for Service
  • Estimated Gross Income: $275,000 - $ 500,000, plus MOCAP level 1
  • Overhead cost associated with private practice only
  • Relocation assistance up to $10,000 maximum or $15,000 maximum if move is over 3,000 kms/international (with eligible receipts)
