Hospitalist

Hospitalist opportunities are now available at Vernon Jubilee Hospital! Apply today to learn more about the living and working experience that we enjoy as Hospitalists in the North Okanagan city of Vernon.

The Hospitalist plays a valuable role on the core service team at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and is responsible for the general medical care of hospitalized adult patients, and for co-management of surgical, and psychiatric patients. This position does not include any Obstetrics/Gynaecology or Pediatrics coverage.

The Hospitalist is commonly faced with acutely ill patients and their families, so the role demands superior clinical and communication skills, and the ability to work with other members of the health care team. There is an essential interface with discharge planning experts, community resources and family physicians which requires a high level of collaboration. Our ideal candidate would demonstrate a strong interest in predominantly hospital care and would be interested in more than .6 FTE time in hospitalist role. The ideal candidate will be a strong collegial fit for our cohesive team.

The Hospitalist service is supported by a complement of specialty services including Anesthesia, General Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Urology and Oncology. Tertiary care referrals are made to Kelowna. The hospital also has a full complement of allied health care professionals on site. Teaching is an option but not mandatory.

Day shifts are 9 hours each from 8 am to 5:00 pm; if full time, 1680 hrs/year. Evening shifts are comprised of 6 on site hours and then overnight call from home. Scheduling is typically one week on/one week off with some flexibility, but your share of FTE determines overall number of shifts and time off. During hospital hours, APP rates apply, but on call overnight, income is from MOCAP funding only. Participation in after-hours call is mandatory. Volumes average 15-20 patients per physician per shift.
