Anatomical Pathologist

Our Purpose: Why we do it

When you work with the Canterbury District Health Board, you're part of something very special. We plan, fund and deliver health services to the almost 600,000 New Zealanders that live in the Canterbury region. Our primary goal is to put people at the heart of everything we do.

The Team: What we do

Pathologists make life changing decisions every day, so maybe it's time to consider making one that will enhance your own career and lifestyle, by joining us here at Canterbury Health Laboratories! Living and working in Christchurch, The Garden City, offers the professional benefits of subspecialty practice in a quaternary public hospital setting, while living in a city that is big enough to have a wide range of cultural and sporting activities yet small enough to have affordable housing, short commuting times and easy access to a beautiful part of the country on our back doorstep. We are now seeking expressions of interest from qualified Pathologists to join our anatomic pathology department.

The Role: Where you fit it

We are looking for a qualified Anatomic Pathologist (FRCPA or equivalent) who has, or is keen to develop, subspecialty expertise in Breast Pathology and is eligible to work in New Zealand. This may take the form of a permanent Consultant position, or a fixed term (12 month) postgraduate Fellowship. In either role you will work with two expert Breast Pathologists, along with the rest of our team of 19 Pathologists and 6 Registrars. Our department, located within Christchurch Hospital, is supported by well-equipped histology and cytology laboratories with an enthusiastic and skilled scientific workforce. We have access to a wide range of ancillary testing including immunohistochemistry, diagnostic molecular pathology and surface marker flow cytometry techniques. Research is actively encouraged, with numerous groups active within both CHL and the University of Otago Christchurch Clinical School of Medicine, and a long-established Tissue Bank. There is no autopsy requirement.
