The Northern Health Authority is seeking a family practitioner to join the Houston Health Centre in Houston, BC. The successful candidate will work alongside one other physician with an inter-professional team of nurses and community health services. Tailor your practice to suit your interests and needs. You will have the flexibility to do ER shifts and/or provide obstetric services in nearby Smithers.  

Houston Health Centre is a unique facility that supports many services under one roof, including:

  • urgent care

  • outpatient services

  • Public Health

  • Home and Community Care

  • Mental Health and Addictions

  • Physiotherapy

  • child and infant development programs

  • a women's health clinic

  • Visiting pediatrics and gynecology specialists. 

The Health Centre also provides space for community groups such as Club House and a support social group for new mothers. The small family-like setting of the health centre is a great place to work and provides many challenges and learning opportunities due to the variety of experiences available. 

Here nestled in the Bulkley Valley of northwest British Columbia, you will find friendly, small-town hospitality. Houston is one of the most affordable places to live in the province and is a progressive, family-oriented community. Houston is known as the world’s Steelhead fishing capital, and is proud to be the home to Canada’s largest fly rod. The main industries in Houston are Forestry and Tourism. The population is approximately 3,700 and there are 2 elementary schools, 1 secondary school as well as a K-12 Christian School. Post-secondary education is offered at the Northwest Community College campus in Houston. 

In order to be eligible for British Columbia licensure your postgraduate training must meet the requirements of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Post graduate training must be obtained from an accredited and approved training program in a jurisdiction sanctioned by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. At this time, those countries are: Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, and Australia. Salary/Rate FFS – $300,000-400,000 per year
