ACADEMIC NEUROLOGIST WITH EXPERTISE IN STROKE AND NEUROINTERVENTIONAL / ENDOVASCULAR THERAPY

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic neurologist fulfilling the academic position description of Clinician Teacher, Clinician Investigator, or Clinician-in-Quality and Innovation. The candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Toronto.  Expected start date is July 1, 2019 or another mutually agreeable date thereafter.

We are seeking a physician who has advanced training in stroke and neurointerventional / endovascular therapy and will foster excellence in acute stroke management and related academic activities. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to clinical activities including a busy endovascular service. Treatment of stroke is the priority focus, but endovascular aneurysm treatment, AVM and AVF embolizations, head and neck embolizations, carotid and intracranial stenting, spine embolizations and interventions etc. may be possible with collaboration amongst neuroradiology and neurosurgery teams. The successful candidate will contribute to an active call schedule for a busy stroke service. The candidate will work closely with the current endovascular clinicians, as well as collaborate with neuroradiology, neurosurgery, and other departments. The candidate will also cover some shared General Neurology call, inpatient consultation services, as well as manage some outpatient clinical work. The successful candidate will collaborate with an active research stroke program in stroke and contribute to well-regarded teaching activities in the division at multiple levels. The primary language of work will be in English.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; have or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology; and have or be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate will also have respective training suiting the academic position. Candidates will require advanced training post-residency in a defined area relevant to the proposed position. The successful candidate will devote approximately 50-75% of their time to patient care and 25- 50% to scholarly work in research, teaching, quality improvement initiatives, and/or administrative duties. Quality improvement excellence will be assessed by the presence of dissemination of successful practices, significant invited presentations, awards, accolades and other related accomplishments. Teaching experience will be measured by the presence of a strong track record of interests and excellence in resident and fellow education, formal training in teaching methodology, awards, leadership as a clinical educator and other relevant experience. Research excellence will be assessed by the presence of research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at significant conferences, awards, accolades and other related accomplishments

Estimated remuneration will be between the range of $200,000 - 500,000 per year (estimate based on fee-for-service billings and other sources of compensation), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
