The Department of Critical Care Medicine is a multidisciplinary department providing care to patients across several critical care units. Areas of focus include trauma, neurosurgery and cardiovascular care. Critical Care also provides consultation and support to the Ross Tilley Burn Centre, the largest burn centre in Ontario. The department has 16 full time staff and on average 150 residents and 14-16 clinical fellows each year. The research enterprise within the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Sunnybrook is at the forefront of discovery and knowledge translation. In collaboration with the Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI), the exceptional team of academic physicians and care providers lead in the delivery of research embedded in care. The Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, University of Toronto is the largest Adult Critical Care Medicine training program in Canada. In this current academic year, between the Royal College Residency and the Clinical Fellowship Programs, there are more than 50 critical care residents and clinical fellows in the Division. The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranked the University of Toronto as the second most productive Critical Care research center in the world in 2017. Candidates must hold an MD and have certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Critical Care Medicine (or equivalent qualifications), and will be eligible to hold a clinical full time academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will have the vision to advance integration with Sunnybrook strategic priorities as well as with the broader community; the commitment to forging partnerships with other institutions to support the development of integrated delivery systems; experience working in diverse populations; values inclusiveness, equity and diversity; strong leadership capabilities, significant experience as an effective mentor to trainees and faculty at all stages of career; a record of peer-reviewed research; leadership in undergraduate, postgraduate, fellowship, continuing medical education or patient education; and/or leadership in model service delivery as a creative professional academic activity.
