Gastroenterologist

A job opportunity is available for a full-time Gastroenterologist at Royal Inland Hospital in beautiful Kamloops. Come join our group of Gastroenterologists who provide service to RIH, as well as maintain a community based practice, and have 2 days of endoscopy time per week. A referral based practice in general gastroenterology and hepatology, as well as participation in the provincial Colorectal Cancer Screening Program, ensures a varied practice. Additional GI subspecialty training is welcomed, but not required. Members of the Division of Gastroenterology provide service to the hospital on a consultative and MRP basis, as well as GI on-call service. Enjoy being well supported working with a great group of general surgeons, GPs/Hospitalists, pathologists and highly trained RNs with SCGNA certification. In this position you also have the opportunity to teach as RIH is a UBC site for the Faculty of Medicine including medical students and residents. 

Clinic Details — Royal Inland Hospital:
The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 246-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 62,000 visits per year.

Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services. Specialty services include Acute Inpatient Psychiatry, Tertiary Inpatient and Community Psychiatric Services, non-interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology and others. Support services include: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, and CT scan, and Echocardiography. RIH also features TPA Stroke, Stroke Trombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory.

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for service
  • Estimated Gross Income: $450,000 - $550,000, plus MOCAP level 2
  • Overhead: Only related to maintaining a private practice
  • Relocation assistance up to $10,000 maximum or $15,000 maximum if move is over 3,000 kms/international (with eligible receipts)
