Anaesthesiologist

The regional hospital in Cranbrook, BC, is looking for a collegial anaesthesia specialist to join the group in sharing specialty anesthesia service to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Our team supports three Operating Rooms, procedures in Ambulatory care, and a pre-screening clinic three days a week. If you enjoy teaching, there are opportunities with medical students, residents, and supporting rural doctors in the area to maintain/upgrade their skills.

The location is perfect for sports enthusiasts, this beautiful valley between the Rockies and the Purcells allows for incredible skiing, mountain biking, fishing, and more! The area also has a thriving performing arts community and history of bringing lively entertainment to town. East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook is a 77 bed regional referral centre, serving a catchment area of approximately 80,000 people in the East Kootenays. The 4 floor facility offers 24/7 emergency services with 16 beds, a brand new state of the art 6 bed ICU, a full range of medical and surgical services including Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pathology, Psychiatry and Radiology and Urology. 

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) – Anaesthesiology
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory.

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full time
  • On call requirements: 1:4, plans to expand group in near future to 1:5.

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for Service+MOCAP
  • Estimated Gross Income: $350,000+
  • Overhead: No overhead cost

Rural Incentives:

  • Recruitment incentive:$20,000
  • Retention fee premium: 14%
  • Retention annual flat fee: $12,400
  • Relocation assistance up to $10,000 maximum or $15,000 maximum if move is over 3,000 kms or international (with eligible receipts)

Cranbrook is a thriving city located in southeastern corner of BC, in the middle of the broad Rocky Mountain Trench with a population of about 20,000 and a surrounding catchment population of approximately 26,000. Historically Cranbrook was a railway and mill town and today has transformed into the largest commercial centre in the East Kootenay Region. Nestled on a gentle plain with scenic mountain vistas in the distance, it is an ideal location to live, work and play.
