Staff Surgeon in the Division of General and Thoracic Surgery

The Department of Surgery, Division of General and Thoracic Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children is inviting applications for the position of Surgeon Scientist, General Surgery. This is a permanent, full-time position. The effective date of this appointment is July 1st 2019.

The clinical component of the position will include a major commitment to the surgical treatment of children with solid tumors. Evidence of excellence in research and an advanced University degree such as Master or PhD are strongly recommended. The candidate must have a strong academic/research background, and is expected to complement the Division’s academic and research productivity.

The Division of General and Thoracic Surgery is comprised of 8 full-time and one part-time academic pediatric surgeons, and provides medical and surgical care of neonates and children with acquired or congenital malformations, solid thoracic and abdominal tumors, thoracic/gastrointestinal diseases and trauma. Clinical activity is supported by paediatric general surgery fellows, as well as surgery and pediatric residents on rotation.

The candidate must hold a medical degree and be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto and Scientist track / Scientist at the Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children. In addition, he/she will be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The appointment will be at a minimum of 50% research protected time. The candidate must be able to function proficiently in English.

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, The Hospital for Sick Children is among the largest children’s hospitals in North America and has a long history of excellence in clinical care, research and education. It is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is located adjacent to the University campus and to numerous specialty hospitals and biomedical research institutes.

Salary range will be between  $400,000 to 500,000 for 40 hours work per week, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Benefits include Medical, Dental, Life, Group Insurance, Pension, and Vision, candidate may be eligible for a relocation package.
