ACADEMIC POSITION: Body Imaging Radiologist

Academic and Clinical Environment:  The City Wide Department of Medical Imaging (www.schulich.uwo.ca/medimaging)  has clinical activities based at St Joseph’s Health Care London (www.sjhc.london.on.ca) and at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) (www.lhsc.on.ca); with research activities based in the Lawson Research Institute (www.lawsonresearch.ca) and at the Robarts Research Institute (www.robarts.ca). The academic training program is Royal College accredited and provides medical imaging education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The faculty consists of 54 Radiologists, 7 Nuclear Medicine physicians and 10 Imaging Scientists providing a subspecialty imaging program to a catchment population of approximately 1.5M people. The Department provides regional diagnostic imaging and interventional programs and has strong relationships with community hospital partners.

The Department is undergoing academic transformation and is hiring a new faculty position for a radiologist with expertise in Body Imaging radiology.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in a blended academic practice that spans the academic - community hospital continuum.

Position Profile:  The successful candidate will be appointed in a full-time limited term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.  In addition, the successful candidate will provide clinical services for London X-Ray Associates (“LXA”) and take an active role in the Citywide Body Imaging Subspecialty Division and must be dedicated to outstanding quality in clinical operations, demonstrate leadership, teaching and/or research abilities. The successful candidate will have completed a Fellowship in Body Imaging Radiology and must have an interest in academic and community radiology. The academic component of this position is predominately located at St. Joseph’s Health Care London and the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. The community practice includes several community hospitals and Independent Health Facilities (IHFs) operated by LXA. One day of protected academic time to support research and teaching is provided.

The Body Imaging Division encompasses a full complement of diagnostic procedures and is comprised of 28 radiologists across St. Joseph’s Health Care London, and London Health Sciences Centre. There is a wide breadth of interesting pathology including hepatic disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and an array of oncologic imaging. The London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) (www.lhsc.on.ca/london-regional-cancer-program) is a world class cancer care facility that provides comprehensive care to patients from Middlesex/London, Elgin, Oxford, Perth, Huron, Grey, Bruce, Lambton and Kent.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • provide a full range of diagnostic clinical services required of a Body Imaging Radiologist;
  • have general practice skills such as performing fluoroscopy and ultrasound guided procedures, including biopsies and drainages.
    • Previous experience in CT Colonography and MR Elastography of the liver would be an asset.

The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing a strong academic career and will be expected to actively participate in the Department of Medical Imaging’s academic, research and education initiatives including teaching and supervision of undergraduate, and postgraduate trainees and fellows.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate must have the following:

  • An MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. 
  • Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Diagnostic Radiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Fellowship in Body Imaging.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to patient care, teaching and research, with the ability to provide a full range of diagnostic clinical services required of a Body Imaging Radiologist.
  • Must have interest and previous experience in academic and community radiology.
  • Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance and experience, as well as qualifications that surpass the requirements for the position.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, a team player and willing to participate in all aspects of academic diagnostic imaging. This includes participation in a multidisciplinary environment, and provision of on call services as required by the Chair/Chief of the academic department and of the community practice served by London X-Ray Associates.

Compensation Details:  Estimated total remuneration from all sources, including fee for service and alternative funding plan, will be in the range of $350,000 - $420,000 annually and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

St. Joseph’s Health Care London:  St. Joseph’s Health Care London is primarily an ambulatory care centre and provides patient care that complements the acute care hospitals of LHSC.  Current clinical imaging equipment includes two 1.5T MRI, one 64 slice CT, modern ultrasound, and new state of the art mammography equipment including digital tomography and contrast dual energy mammography.  The Department is upgrading to state of the art paired 3T and 1.5T MRI, and state of the art CT and X-ray equipment. Research imaging equipment includes a 256 slice CT, and a 3T PET/MR.  A PET/CT serves clinical and research functions.
