Clinician Scientist in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition

A full-time permanent faculty position is available effective October 1, 2019 in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition for a clinician scientist at the assistant or associate professor level, at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON. 

SickKids is a world renowned academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children, affiliated with the University of Toronto. The SickKids Research Institute includes seven fully integrated research programs (http://www.sickkids.ca/Research/) and is located in the state-of-the-art Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning, within the Discovery District of downtown Toronto. The position offers a unique environment for medical science discoveries in close proximity to nine teaching and research hospitals and Canada’s largest university. 

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) comprises 16 highly collegial faculty who maintain a high volume and high impact research output and who provide clinical programs that cover the breadth of the subspecialtyThe successful candidate must have completed training in paediatric GHN certified by the RCPSC, or equivalent. They must have an excellent and extensive training record in research related to paediatric GHN and show strong potential to successfully develop and/or continue their own independent research program. 

Up to 80% of time will be protected for research. Clinical responsibilities will include contributing as a member of a Division that provides high quality in-patient and out-patient care for children with GHN disorders, children requiring liver transplantation, and the provision of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, in a tertiary/quaternary care environment. Clinical care responsibilities will be focused where possible on a subspecialist area relevant to the successful applicant’s research program.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto and a SickKids Research Institute Scientist appointment will be sought.  For applicants transitioning from training to faculty, a “Scientist Track” appointment may be available which provides a highly supported and mentored position for the initial 2-4 years on faculty.

Rank and salary ($210,000-250,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, and an academic allowance and a relocation package and may be eligible for mortgage assistance. 

All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, and must be certified or eligible for certification in Paediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
