Welcome to Kitimat’s economic boom times – spearheaded by Canada’s largest private investment – the $40-billion energy megaproject – LNG Canada (Liquefied Natural Gas). The natural gas export terminal will be built in Kitimat bringing hundreds of people and at least 4,500 workers at the peak of LNG construction in 2021. With the community’s population hovering at around 9,000 residents, there will be work camps set up to accommodate the influx of workers. The LNG Canada could mean $22 billion in revenue to B.C.’s economy over 40 years. It could also mean hundreds of jobs in construction and operation of the plant, a corresponding natural gas pipeline, and service and retail businesses.

An excellent opportunity exists for a Family Physician with Emergency and Anaesthesia skills to join a rural group practice in Kitimat. Join the wonderful team of 11 rural MD’s, and utilize anaesthesia and emergency room skills in the 20 bed acute care site, including 2 beds for maternity. The shared clinic work allows for great cross coverage and generous time off for all MD’s to enjoy the beautiful Pacific Northwest Coast lifestyle. Set within some of the most spectacular and remote scenery in the world, Kitimat truly is a "Marvel of Industry and Nature". A deep sea port town, situated on both the sheltered inland coast at the head of the Douglas Channel and on the only other flat bottomed valley on the Canadian west coast, outside Vancouver, with easy rail, road and air access - it has an enviably bright future. Purpose built by Alcan in the 1950's, the friendly multicultural town boasts perhaps the best facilities for a community of its size with two ice arenas, a brand new pool, sports fields, a theatre, a modern library, recreation centres, a shopping mall, marinas, homes for the elderly, several schools, inexpensive housing and countless opportunities to take advantage of the spectacular wilderness just outside the Douglas Channel. The many pristine salmon bearing rivers, along with mountain hiking trails and local ski hills offer a lifetime of experiences for the outdoor enthusiast and young family.
