Neurologist - Movement Disorders Specialist

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a full-time Neurologist with expertise in the treatment of Movement Disorders. The candidate will fill a clinical academic role as a Clinician Teacher or Clinician Researcher at Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will hold a limited term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences is comprised of 36 Neurologists and 12 Neurosurgeons and is the single tertiary referral centre for Southwestern Ontario. The Department provides provide secondary, tertiary and quaternary services to a patient population of 1.8 million, but its referral base extends beyond the region to include areas in northern Ontario and a significant portion from the Niagara region – increasing this referral base to 3.5 million. London is the Regional Stroke Center for Southwestern Ontario and has a busy acute stroke and endovascular thrombectomy service.

The successful candidate will have a record of proven ability for teaching and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and will supervise trainees, including fellows, residents, and medical students in an inpatient and out-patient setting. In addition to subspecialty practice in movement disorders, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate in on call activities and teaching for the general neurology CTU and stroke neurology CTU, including night time and weekend coverage. To be successful for a Clinician Researcher position, the incumbent will have a record of proven ability for research and will be expected to collaborate with other colleagues specialized in Movement Disorders, within the Department, and to generate national and international research collaborations. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a Master’s degree or PhD. Candidates interested in a Clinician Teacher position should have a proven record of excellence in medical education and will be expected to develop an education-oriented career. Preference will be given to candidates with formal training in adult education theories, curriculum design, learner assessment, and/or evaluation of program outcomes.

The successful candidate is expected to be a contributing member of the Movement Disorders Program. Candidates will have completed at least two years of fellowship training in Movement Disorders (or equivalent subspecialty training) and/or have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in the management of Movement Disorders patients in an academic environment in North America.

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support.
