Chief Executive Officer

PHSA has a unique role in BC's health authority system: to ensure that BC residents have access to a coordinated provincial network of high-quality specialized health-care services. PHSA works in partnership with the province's health authorities and health-care professionals to improve access to evidence-informed practice closer to where people live and to effectively promote health, manage chronic conditions and reduce the burden of illness. With a $3.6 billion annual operating budget and more than 24,000 employees across the province, PHSA takes a population-specific and patient-centred and evidence based approach to care, in support of BC’s health care system goals.

Seldom does such a compelling role become available for a healthcare leader in Canada. Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) of British Columbia is commencing a search for a President & CEO. With the incumbent retiring later this year, it marks a time in PHSA’s history where innovation, change-management and progressive healthcare initiatives are well underway. PHSA has a strong and exciting mandate from the provincial government and a dedicated senior leadership team is implementing and delivering on the transformation.

This is a demanding CEO role and the Board of PHSA seeks a superlative leader who understands the changing dynamics in public healthcare and who has the proven ability to create effective working relationships with diverse partners, stakeholders and communities. An individual who is strategic but knows how to execute on leading change – who builds trust and respect through delivering on promises made. A leader, not a manager. A CEO who will work effectively with a dedicated board; world class clinical leaders, scientists and teachers: a committed workforce and has the operational and business acumen to manage one of the largest healthcare operating and capital budgets in the country.

Modeling the values of PHSA, dedicated to serving the needs of citizens requiring engagement with healthcare services and embracing technology and data-informed decision making, this unique President & CEO role requires an equally unique candidate. It is a substantial leadership role which requires the CEO to be collaborative but driven. A CEO passionate about improving the system of care with a talented executive having confidence in the transformation goals of the Minister of Health.
